As human beings we can all allow stress, panic and worry take over our bodies and life may become more difficult to manage when we allow this to happen.
I for one am a victim of over-thinking and there is honestly nothing more annoying than allowing your sub-conscious to accept certain thoughts to be true. Therefore over the past few months I have been trying to better myself and to make myself view situations and how I deal with them to no longer affect my wellness. For the past 12 weeks I have taken part in CBT- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. For those of you don't know what CBT is, it is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. CBT is based on the Cognitive Model of Emotional Response. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel / act better even if the situation does not change. It is a time-limited therapy with sessions only going up to around 16 sessions, unlike other therapy that can take up to months or even years. I have learned to manage stress and to reduce my negative outlook on life and have in fact turned my negativity into positivity and you too can do that. The way we think can conclude the outcomes of constitutions in our lives and from my own journey of changing my life around and living a stress-free life I'm going to provide you with some tips that you may find helpful to be calm, relaxed and confident.
A quote by Audrey Hepburn that sticks out to me is "The most important thing is to enjoy your life- to be happy- it's all that matters". And how true is she? We only have one chance here and I know most of us don't want to waste our time worrying, stressed or panicking over things we can't control.
Having a Journal: I personally enjoy writing and getting my thoughts out onto a page and I have found it to be such a positive outlet. It may not be for some people but I promise if you give it a try it will benefit you and help to manage stress. In my wardrobe I stand by two powerful journals and I have attached images of them below.
This super cute notebook was given to me as a gift from my boyfriend. It can be purchased in any TIGER store. For me overthinking, worrying thoughts and negative thoughts hit me when I'm lying in bed trying to go to sleep so this is a perfect outlet for me before I hit the hay.
The layout of the pages are quite cute too. You fill in the date/time at night and then you jot down your thoughts. At the end of the page you have boxes to tick which are if you think your thoughts are -Brilliant -Life-changing -Must be shared -Worries me -Ill keep it to myself -Other
This Mind, Body and Soul Journal by the beautiful Andrea Hayes has become my bible. It is a practical illustrated journal filled with a twelve month strategy which helps to unleash the best version of yourself. I'm usually not a spiritual person but this journal has made me become aware of my own self-awareness. Each month Andrea sets out a dare of the month so for example last months dare was to do a digital detox.
This journal can be purchased from Easons or online from Amazon. I highly recommend this and I can promise you it will help.
Pamper Day: There is nothing better than a pamper day to have a stress free life. Nothing is more important than taking time out for yourself and to have some me-time. For me my favourite thing to rewind is a spa-day. Last Monday I was treated to a spa day at the K-Club in Straffan, Co. Kildare. The spa day began from 10 am in the Spa section of the Hotel. I was greeted by welcoming members of staff in which I was given a form to fill out a form for my massage. I then went into the beautiful swimming pool area and was then called by a member of staff. I was booked in for a 50-minute hot stone massage which costs €145pp but believe me it is worth every cent. It eased all the knots away with a combination of oils, hot stones and an outstanding massage. I then got a full facial massage which left my skin glowing and revitalized leaving my skins surface completely regenerated. I then was allowed to roam through the spas relaxation rooms which complimentary food and drinks were provided. You could sit there sleep, read or hop into the Jacuzzi suite and then follow into the steam room and sauna. My final treatment was a hot mud bath- but not an ordinary mud bath. I was given a small tub of mud which I was instructed to put all over my body, they then dim the lights while you sit and wait for your mud to dry into the skin. After about 20 minutes a rainfall shower comes on which washes away the mud leaving your skin glowing and refreshed.
