PODGE AND RODGE have returned to our screens for the first time in nine years alongside brand new host Doireann Garrihy. The Millennial's Philip and Andrew stopped by Ballydung Manor to see how the lads are settling back in.
The guests on this edition of the show were former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle and Big Brother/ Dancing With The Stars contestant Hughie Maughan. It really was a tale of two halves for the guests on this edition of the show.
Hughie Maughan was brilliant and played off the controversial duo very well. The reality star regularly had the crowd in stitches and the room erupted when he fell off his chair. He talked life in TV and the launch of his own fake tan brand after his botched tan experience on Dancing With The Stars.
Nadine Coyle's interview was not as well received, in fact it was hard to watch at times. She didn’t engage in any of the banter that we’d associate with Podge and Rodge interviews. Questions were deflected on her relationship with Girls Aloud members and her own time in her youth on Irish reality show 'Popstars'. The clip of Nadine lying about her age on the show was played. I heard someone in the crowd compare watching the interview as like “watching someone try and get blood out of a stone live”. The people of Twitter also agreed with this assessment.
Doireann Garrihy has been a great addition to Ballydung Manor. She was fantastic with the audience and after the recording she took pictures with anyone who wanted one. She spoke to the Millennial's Niamh O'Reilly.
There is definitely still a market for Podge and Rodge nine years on, with hundreds of people having a great night at RTE studios. Ireland's only non PC TV show still has a place on Irish television. The staff were friendly and we received a drink of choice upon arrival. It is a great option for students if they are looking for something different to do instead of a night out.
