Training is a key factor that is attached to a successful career in sport. The detail that goes into preparing before a big match is what makes the difference in getting results. Across all the big sports around the world they all have one thing in common. This one thing is what will determine if they will achieve a successful career in the sport of their choice. It doesn't matter if it is a team sport or an individual sport, training is still crucial.
I went to watch the Irish rugby team train to get a closer feel to what it takes to have a career at the elite level of sport. The Irish Rugby team were preparing for their upcoming game against Scotland. The team had just received their first defeat of the six nations against England and any hope of back to back grand slams were dashed. Dealing with defeat is another element of an athlete's career and it is how they bounce back from defeats which determine how far in their career they will go.
The whole squad of -layers is out on the pitch as the session begins. The teams session starts at a slow pace with simple warm up exercise beginning the session. As the training session goes on we see the team be put through their paces from a physical and tactical standpoint. The team are engaging in scrums and lineouts that will be put into use in the upcoming game. The team are also being put through their paces tactical. The coaches are lining up the players in the positions that they want them in for the weekend game.
Tactics is something that is very important in sport at the highest level. Having a manger who is tactically savoy and knows the game very well jis a benefit for sany team and the Irish rugby team is no different.
Towards the end of the session the team are involved in a simulated training game. The starting line up for the weekends clash is line up against the reserves. This is interesting as we now know what team Joe Schmidt will put out for the upcoming game against Scotland. This is a trait that is exclusive to rugby among other sports, where we see what teams will line up days before the game has started. This does not happen in football and can be seen to give the opposing team a advantage before a game.
The thing that striked me the most when watching the team tarin was how high the intensity was. The team were really putting their all into the session and you could see it from the stands. This is impressive and it makes it more impressive that this session is on the back of a defeat. The team will now do their utmost to avenge the recent result.
The hard work and detail that goes into training at a high level is second to none. Seeing this first hand has highlighted this to me even more. Training is something that does not be talked about enough but this is what were the biggest athletes put in the hard work and start to change their results. To get a better insight into the appreciation levels from the public to the athletes I took to the streets to find out more.
